UNSCR 1325 and WPS Agenda (peace, security, and climate change, refugees)

This article explores the dual-edged nature of this development, examining how the NATO office might contribute to advancing the WPS agenda by bringing resources while highlighting the risks of overshadowing gender equality efforts with a predominantly military focus. Furthermore, it considers the implications for civil society and the long-term impact on regional stability, questioning whether the NATO presence could inadvertently perpetuate conflict dynamics rather than fostering sustainable peace.

Over the past years, climate change has aggravated and created new challenges in the Arab world and the world, such as resource scarcity and socio-economic instability, which has clearly affected women and youth, and peace and security in general.

The importance of representing women’s voices from all segments and their effective participation in the development of the National Action Plan and the Women, Security, and Peace Agenda was also highlighted, in addition to building effective and sustainable partnerships and relationships between several actors related to the themes of the conference, concerting efforts between the various sectors to build the capacities of local community organizations, and maintaining the level and continuity of funding that would ensure the sustainability of the work of these organizations
