A young 8 years old girl named Sanaa (a pseudonym) Born with Down syndrome, facing numerous challenges, including limited opportunities for education and personal development. However, her life took a transformative turn when her parents decided to bring her along as a guest to English and art sessions at ARDD’s training center with her sister Roqaia.
The parents, driven by their determination to help their daughter, have been attending these sessions to improve the language and social skills of their daughter. Recognizing Sanaa’s desire to learn and create, also ARDD believed these sessions could be the stepping stone to a brighter future for this young vulnerable girl.
At first, Sanaa was shy and hesitant in the new environment. The unfamiliar faces and surroundings made her anxious, but with the trainers unwavering support and the warm welcome from ARDD’s staff and other attendees, Sanaa gradually felt more at ease. The art sessions, in particular, allowed Sanaa to express herself in ways she had never experienced before. Through colors and shapes, she found her voice and began communicating with the world around her.
As the weeks turned into months, Sanaa’s progress was recognized. Her participation in the Art sessions helped her by giving her the means to communicate more effectively.
The training center became a place of belonging for Roqaia and Sanaa, where they were embraced by a diverse and supportive group of individuals who saw beyond their refugee status and differences. The inclusivity and encouragement they received nurtured their growth and empowered them to aim higher.
With newfound confidence and skills, Sanaa surprised everyone by expressing her desire to attend school. Despite never having set foot in a classroom before, she was determined to take the leap. With the guidance of ARDD staff, Sanaa went through the process of enrolling in a nearby school that valued inclusivity and diversity.
Sanaa’s success story spreads beyond the refugee settlement and should reach the hearts of people worldwide.
Sanaa’s story teaches us that with love, support, and opportunities, the human spirit can overcome any challenge.
