Together… Stories of Voices towards a New Renaissance

Across communities in Jordan, change often begins in everyday spaces , through women choosing to participate, share ideas, and take active roles in shaping their communities.

Through Empowering Each Other – Leading Together: Advancing Women’s Leadership Through Civic Action, implemented by the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD), learning spaces evolved into platforms for dialogue, confidence-building, and civic engagement. During its eighth phase, the project engaged hundreds of women and girls across multiple governorates through Oasis Centers, strengthening leadership, advocacy, and participation while fostering shared responsibility for inclusive community development.

Behind this collective progress are individual journeys — each reflecting how participation can gradually grow into leadership.

Learning as a Starting Point

For Anoud Albayar from Al-Muwaqqar, joining the project was driven by enthusiasm to learn new skills. While she already considered herself confident, participation helped her further develop negotiation and influence skills that strengthened her ability to advocate for fair causes and support positive change within her community.

A similar realization shaped the experience of Samah Khalifeh from Ayra and Yarka. She recalls joining the project after recognizing that her voice deserved to be heard. Through the trainings, she strengthened her communication skills and learned how to advocate respectfully while encouraging women and girls around her to participate more actively in community life.

Finding Confidence Through Participation

In Zarqa, Hayat Alzawahreh describes her participation as a deeply transformative experience. Entering the project in search of belonging, she found a supportive environment that strengthened her confidence and enabled her to express her views with clarity. Learning negotiation and advocacy skills allowed her to defend not only her own rights but also support women within her community.

For Ilham Ishtayyeh from Tafileh, Empowering Each Other provided a space for personal and civic growth. She explains that the experience helped her understand that expressing opinions and advocating for rights requires knowledge and confidence. Equipped with these skills, she now seeks to extend empowerment to other women and promote equal opportunities within her community.

Leadership Shaped by Persistence

Many participants’ journeys reflect determination shaped by life circumstances.

In Jerash, Sahar Alnsoor continued pursuing learning opportunities despite financial challenges that limited her educational path. Participation in trainings strengthened her confidence and leadership abilities, enabling her to transition from trainee to trainer and later coordinator of community initiatives supporting local development.

Likewise, Hanan Mahmoud describes the project as a turning point in her personal journey. Driven by a strong desire for self-development, she gained social and professional skills that strengthened her confidence and expanded her engagement within the community. Today, she aspires to inspire other women to pursue their ambitions regardless of challenges.

Empowerment Within Community and Family

For Nirvana Sbeih Alqaraleh from Karak, empowerment was closely connected to encouragement and shared responsibility. Supported in continuing her education, she entered the project ready to grow. Participation strengthened her confidence, helped her manage multiple roles, and encouraged exploration of economic opportunities.

Her experience reflects an important message emerging from the initiative, that women’s participation strengthens families and communities when partnership and mutual support are present.

From Participation to Civic Influence

The journey of Tasneem Alkharsha, also from Karak, demonstrates how engagement evolves over time. What began with attending civic participation sessions became a turning point that later enabled her to facilitate community dialogue discussions addressing issues affecting women.

Through this experience, participation moved beyond learning toward active contribution to community solutions and inclusive dialogue.

A Collective Path Toward Inclusive Leadership

Across governorates, the eighth phase of Empowering Each Other reflects a gradual yet meaningful shift. Women expanded their roles from participants in training sessions to contributors in community dialogue, initiative development, and local leadership.

Rather than isolated success stories, these journeys represent a growing network of women strengthening civic participation and supporting more inclusive community engagement across Jordan.

Together We Create Change

On International Women’s Day 2026, these stories highlight how sustainable progress often grows through participation, collaboration, and shared commitment.

Leadership develops step by step, confidence grows through opportunity, and communities advance when participation becomes collective.
